Yes, I am a Bouma, too! Click here to drop us a note!
Around 1700 there were 80 families named Bouma living relatively close together in Frisia, a small area in the Northern part of the Netherlands with a culture and language of its own. Our surname may have been derived from Bavoma (this means Son of Bavo, a Frisian name). Another story tells that Bouma comes from the word 'bouber' (which meant farmer in the ancient days). Since then, we have spread around the world!

I have genealogy information to share
Many Boumas have sent us data on over one thousand (!) ancestors. Unfortunately, we do not have time to keep our records up to date with such large amounts of Bouma family information, although we are always interested in obtaining more. If you're a Bouma too, then where do you live? And where does your family come from, exactly? What are the first names of your parents and grandparents? E-mail us at postmaster@bouma.net to share your genealogy information!
