The Bouma family name originates from Frisia, a small area in the Northern part of the Netherlands with a culture and language of its own. Our name may have been derived from Bavoma (this means Son of Bavo, a Frisian name). Another story tells that Bouma comes from the word 'bouber' (which meant farmer in the ancient days). Since then, we have spread around the world. Are you looking for genealogy information? We have over one thousand names in our database. From five branches the information goes back to the 1700s.
